Sagamore Hill – Oyster Bay Cove, NY

Sagamore Hill served as the Summer White House from 1902 to 1909. It is the only home Theodore Roosevelt ever owned. I visited the Queen Anne style house on July 26, 2008 – It had been many years since my last visit.

The interior of the house is fairly dark now, partly because of its furnishings and partly because the trees have grown so tall……

The house has some exterior decoration, but it is restrained – especially for a Queen Anne Style house.

I thought the ornamentation on the front porch columns was interesting – very masculine.

The windmill powered a water pump- to get running water to the third floor of the house.

Also on the grounds of Sagamore Hill is another home, Old Orchard House, built by Theodore Roosevelt Jr. in 1938.
